Hello dear readers of Dark Street Hackers!

Hope you and your family is doing well in this COVID-19 pandemic. Here, I would like to warmly welcome you all to have a glance on Forensics Science and it's types.

What is forensic science?

  • Whenever a crime takes place, we have noticed that one team from the police investigation department visits the crime scene.
  • Their main motto is to collect the evidence for further process and representation in the court of law.
  • Forensic science is a branch of science, which deals with crime, investigation and law.
  • We can also say that Forensic science is the use of scientific methods or expertise to investigate crimes or examine evidence that might be presented in a court of law.

What is Digital Forensic?

  • Digital Forensic is a branch of forensic science. As per the name suggest Digital Forensic is the field which is related to computers or any electronic machines.
  • With the help of digital forensic, the data, which is used during the cyber crime is retrieved from the machine or the digital evidence has to be recovered.
  • The goal of digital forensics is to support the elements of troubleshooting, monitoring, recovery, and the protection of sensitive data.
  • Moreover, in the event of a crime being committed, cyber forensics is also the approach to collecting, analysing, and archiving data as evidence in a court of law.
Which are the branches of digital forensic?
  • There are mainly four branches of digital forensic. Computer forensic, Mobile forensic, Network forensic and Database forensic.
    1. Computer Forensic: In this type of forensic, the focus is on the data available on the computer. The expert tries to retrieve the information related to the computer or a laptop like serial numbers, history, deleted data etc..
    2. Mobile Forensic: Sometimes attackers use stolen mobile devices for committing different cyber crimes. Here the expert tries to collect the data from the android or iOS based device like call information, message information, contact, browser history etc…
    3. Network Forensic: In this type of forensic cyber expert use to analyse the network traffic and examine the intrusion in the network. In addition, the duty of a network forensic expert is to find the attacker location with the help of IP addresses if the attacker is in the network. Here Law enforcements may analyse captured network traffic as part of cyber crime investigation.
    4. Database Forensic: In this type of forensic, the expert tries to collect the information related to the cyber crime which is stored in the servers RAM. Their attempt is to collect the evidence with the help of available database in the server

What is the need of digital-forensic?

  • In this computer era, the number of cybercrimes is increasing daily.
  • To analyse the cybercrime case is not possible for a regular forensic officer.
  • For a cybercrime, you need a digital-forensic team for an incidence response.
  • In addition, digital devices like computers and IOT are vulnerable for a cyber-attack so the need of digital forensic is important for an organization.
  • If experts understand the forensic procedure then it will be use-full to present the digital evidence in the court of law. So that for any organization or a government the digital-forensic is useful.
