So, welcome to the world of science and as I welcome you to this my new piece of writing, here you are connected to me with another miracle of science – The Internet. Isn’t it so interesting to be connected from wherever you are sitting right now to the whole world. And everything around us. Well those points I shall rather save for later on. But until then I wish you all a Happy “National Science Day”.

National Science Day is celebrated on 28th of February since 1928 to mark the discovery made by Indian Physicist Sir C V Raman known as the “Raman Effect” respectively. And this discovery also got him awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930. This event is now celebrated throughout the country in schools, colleges, universities, science and research institutions or any other academics. Speeches are held at all these places in respect to celebrate this day and honor the Indian Physicist.

The credit of bringing this day is of NCSTC (National Council for Science and Technology). It requested the government to bring this day into action and not only so it has its own way of celebrating this day in a special manner. It keeps different themes every year to celebrate this day and this had started in the year 1999. These themes are common and a part of our daily lives and easy to spread as they are either about importance of science in our daily life or to encourage the people to popularize the Science and Technology.

The various themes of the year were as mentioned below:

1999 - Our Changing Earth

2000 - Recreating Interest in Basic Science

2001 - Information Technology for Science Education

 2002 - Wealth from Waste

2003 - 50 years of DNA & 25 years of IVF – The Blue print of Life

2004 - Encouraging Scientific Awareness in Community

2005 - Celebrating Physics

2006 - Nurture Nature for our future

2007 - More Crop Per Drop

2008 - Understanding the Planet Earth

2009 - Expanding Horizons of Science

2010 - Gender Equity, Science & Technology for Sustainable Development

2011 - Chemistry in Daily Life

2012 - Clean Energy Options and Nuclear Safety

2013 - Genetically Modified Crops and Food Security

2014 - Fostering Scientific Temper

2015 - Science for Nation Building

2016 - Scientific Issues for Development of the Nation

2017 - Science and Technology for Specially Abled Persons

2018 - Science and Technology for a sustainable future

This year also the National Science Day’s theme is “Science for the People, and People for the Science”, particularly known as “The Theme of the Year”. No matter how many days we celebrate for the name of Science but nothing matters until and unless we the humans don’t understand what actually science is and value it. Also use it rather than to misuse it. No matter it has great miracles to give but when the curse comes out it shall for sure be unbearable.

And as we step deeper into the knowledge of science we may either construct ourselves or vice – versa leading the whole race towards destruction. Learning one thing may also lead to the learning of something new too.

To quote the words of the great Physicist Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman he said,

“In the history of science, we often find that the study of some natural phenomenon has been the starting point of a new branch of knowledge.”

Stay connected, keep living, keep reading!!!
